Whenever you think of Los Angeles you usually think about the Hollywood life,  movies, celebrities, and sports. The last thing on your mind might be hiking, but LA is actually a great place to find some good trails with beautiful views (and not just the Hollywood sign). Here is a list of some of the best trails to visit near home.

Sandstone Peak

Looking to reach the highest point of the Santa Monica Mountains? Sandstone peak will definitely get you there. With a high point of 3,111 ft, and a 3 mile and a 6.1-mile trail that you can choose from. Both trails provide an easy transition in elevation change and allow you to enjoy the amazing views to the east.

Parker Mesa Via Los Liones Trail

This 7.3-mile trail made for the moderate level hiker is the perfect place for anyone looking to get some priceless views of the Santa Monica Bay. There are wide fire roads that you can take up, but if you’re looking for more of a variety of landscapes Topanga State Park has to offer, then the southern routes are the way to go.

Malibu Creek

Explore Malibu Creek State Park and enjoy the multiple side-sceneries, man-made lakes, and of course, the views of the Santa Monica Mountains. You’ll quickly realize why this is a popular spot to shoot  TV shows and movies. Along with your trail, you will even find old remnants of the  TV show M*A*S*H. This hiking trail does not provide a steep elevation, but the 8-mile hike will have you feeling accomplished.

Location: Park Entrance Rd, Agoura Hills, CA 91301

The Bridge to Nowhere

Are you looking for a little more adventurous hike in which you have multiple river crossings, a chance to swim, and have the opportunity to bungee jump off a bridge that leads to nowhere? This is the place for those adventure seekers. The bridge to Nowhere is a 10.1-mile hike down the east fork of the San Gabriel River. But come prepared! River crossings can significantly increase in difficulty during the winter months for example. Otherwise, this is a fun year-round hike with many historic and beautiful views.

This 3-mile hike is located in the heart of Hollywood. Choose from either a paved path or a more rugged way up the mountain and enjoy some of the best views of the city.
