Happy February!  This week we have history, travel, dessert, mardi gras, and crafts!  It’s going to be a fun-filled week with diverse events! Here’s our top 5, and don’t forget to check back each week for that week’s best events, brought to you by Long Beach Home + Living and ExploreLongBeach !

BILINGUAL STORY TIME

When: Tuesday February 4th from 5 pm – 6 pm

Where: Billie Jean King Main Library, 200 W Broadway, Long Beach

Libros y Leyendas is a monthly storytime focusing on Latin American folklore and new books of Latin American interest for a slightly older crowd.  They’ll read and perform both classic and new legends aloud from books or performing an oral story with props.  This program is recommended for grades 2-5. Visit their website for more info!

8TH ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENT

When: Thursday February 6th from 4pm – 7 pm

Where: Expo Arts Center, 4321 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach

A FREE unique, multicultural, intergenerational community-wide educational celebration of art, music, culture, contributions, history, legacy & opportunities. There will be youth sessions, panel discussions, featured speakers, musical performances, and more. While the event kicks off on Thursday, there will be exhibitions and panels through Saturday evening.  Check out their event page to learn more!

ANNUAL FIRST FRIDAYS MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION AND PARADE

When: Friday February 7th from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Where: First Fridays Long Beach, 4321 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach

Mardi Gras First Fridays!  This is my FAVORITE First Fridays event!  Parades, vibrant masks, and beads galore are in full swing from 6:30pm – 9:30pm! Whether you’re covered in beads or making friends with a few jesters, let’s get jazzy! The parade steps off from Georgie’s Place at 7pm! Come be part of a bead throwing street party right at Pixies, with jugglers, the kids rock band, story telling and lots more- it will be trumpets galore. BELMONT SHORE CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

When: Saturday February 8th from 1 pm – 3 pm

Where: Belmont Shore, 2nd Street, Long Beach

The Chocolate Festival is here!!  Belmont Shore Businesses will be offering an array of chocolate treats for chocolate lovers, along with other sweets to satisfy the whole family. There is no entry fee for the event, only the cost of tickets used to purchase the dessert items. Twelve tickets for $10 Tickets will be sold beginning at 11am on day of the event in front of Chase Bank (5200 E. 2nd). Also our merchants at Shore Business Center, The Beach on 2nd, Blue Windows, La Strada, Polly’s Coffee, Salon Soma.

Participating businesses include: Dogz, Earl of Sandwich, Fern’s Garden, Frosted, George’s Greek Cafe, Haewadal, La Creperie, La Strada, Legends, Long Beach Tap House, Open Sesame, Poke Pola, Polly’s Gourmet Coffee, Roe Xpress, Salud Juice, Snow Monster, Taco Shore, The Beach on 2nd, The Pizza Press, Z Pizza, and more!!  Click their link to learn more!

VALENTINE CARDS AND A FIREFIGHTER

When: Saturday February 8th from 2 pm – 3:30 pm

Where: Steelcraft (Bellflower), 16500 Bellflower Blvd, Bellflower

Come to Steelcraft Bellflower this Saturday to meet with our local firefighters & enjoy a Free community Valentine’s day activity!  Children can make Valentine’s day cards for our 2 Firehouses & our Sheriff’s station. They can then deposit them into mailboxes which we will be delivering on Valentine’s day!  Card making supplies will be provided and feel free to bring your own Valentine’s day card’s if you wish! SoCAL MUSEUMS FREE-FOR-ALL-DAY

When: Saturday January 25th from 9 am – 5 pm

SoCal Museums presents the 15th Annual Museums Free-for-All. Over 40 museums—presenting art, cultural heritage, natural history, and science—will open their doors and invite visitors to attend free of charge.  Use the link below to see the list of participating museums and additional info about each of them!
