2nd Place: $150
Honorable Mentions: five awards @ $50 each
Director’s Awards: $50 to $100
JUSTIN RUDD’S BELMONT SHORE SIDEWALK CHALK ART CONTEST will surely “draw” a crowd on Sat., Oct. 19, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 4:10 p.m. Attracting seasoned and emergent visual artists, as well as participants from local high schools and universities, the 14th annual Belmont Shore Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, presented by Justin Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team (C.A.T.), will showcase the works of diverse artists who will use chalk as their medium, and the sidewalks of Belmont Shore as their canvas. There will be $1,000 cash awarded again this year.
ARTISTS WILL DRAW on premium artist’s paper that will be affixed to the sidewalk with blue masking tape. Artists are free to take home their artwork after the judging and/or to sell their art at the event. By drawing on paper, it also allows artists to move indoors if it rains (as it did a few years ago).
The event is part of the Belmont Shore Art Walk on Second Street.

PARENT AND ME: OTTERS
Saturday October 19th from 10 am – 11:30 am
Who loves otters?! Join the Aquarium for a fun and interactive class for the whole family. Parent and Me classes allow adults and children to learn together through play, movement, and exploration. Children will use their observation skills to explore shapes, colors, and textures while touching animals in a private classroom, touring Aquarium exhibits, and participating in hands-on activities related to the theme. After your class, revisit your favorite exhibits. This event is designed for kids ages 2-6. Aquarium admission is included!
Did you know that sea otters have the densest fur of any animal? During this 1 ½ hour program, parent/child pairs will:
-Touch invertebrates in our private classroom touch pool
-Take a guided tour of the Northern Pacific Gallery
-Create a fun, ocean-themed craft to take home
-Forage for food like a sea otter
-Touch animal biofacts relating to sea otters
The cost for this event is $49.00 per adult/child pair; $20.00 per additional guest, or $19.00 for Aquarium member pairs; $10.00 per additional guest. Pre-registration is required. For reservations, call (562) 590-3100. Cancellations made 72 hours before the program will receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 72 hours before a program will still be charged the full program price.
